Pirates, Lady Pirates Fall In
Districts
By
Kenny Bowyer
LOCUST GROVE -
Roland's Zac Roberts scored a team high 26 points, while
teammate Corey Silva added another 13, as Roland cruised to a
71-51 win over Locust Grove Friday in District Action at the
Dome.
Roland, who finished as state runner up a year ago, actually
trailed the Pirates 14-9 after the first quarter. That
apparently woke up the sleeping giants, as Roland outscored
Locust 25-10 in the second, and took a commanding 34-24 lead
into the half.
Locust was led by Tyler Downing's 8 points.
The Pirates will play at 3:00pm in Locust in the losers bracket
on Thursday. The Lady Pirates, who fell to Roland 49-44,
will tip-off at 1:30 in Locust next Thursday as well.

Ladycats, Pirates Earn "W" In
Dome
By
Kenny Bowyer
LOCUST GROVE - The
Chouteau Ladycats looked like the Ladycats of old Thursday night
in the dome in Locust Grove, as they cruised to a 22-point win,
59-37 over the Lady Pirates.
Lexie Searles of Chouteau led all scorers with 15 points, while
Brittany Stone led the Lady Pirates with 11 points.
Chouteau got out of the gate quickly against the lady Pirates.
The Ladycats built a commanding 23-11 lead after the first
quarter, only to add to it even more in the second quarter,
taking a 35-17 lead into the half.
Chouteau pulled away in the second half, helping them cruise to
the win.
In the nightcap, the Locust Grove Pirates found a way to come
from behind again, as they rolled to a 44-35 win over Chouteau.
Randall Caldwell
(LEFT) had a double-double for the Pirates (11 points,
12 boards) to lead the Pirates. Shade Kirtly led the Cats
with 14 points, in the losing effort.
Chouteau led from the opening tip on, but with just 30 seconds
left in the half, and trailing 15-14, Taylor Wallace nailed a
trey to put the Pirates up for the first time, 17-15. The
lead was short lived though, as Chouteau's Josh Mahan made a
nice crossover dribble to take it to the hole for an easy
lay-up, tying the game at 17 just as the buzzer sounded.
The Cats came out as cold as the weather was outside in the
second half. Chouteau was a dismal 1-of-6 from the field
and 1-of-6 from three point land in the third quarter, including
going scoreless for the first five and a half minutes of the
third quarter. The Pirates built a 30-22 lead after three
quarters of play, and never looked back.
Despite the poor shooting, Chouteau was still very much a part
of this game. The Cats forced five Pirate turnovers in the
fourth, but just couldn't capitalize off of it.
Chouteau will host Wagoner Friday night, while Locust Grove
hosts Miami for Homecoming. Those festivities will start
at the Dome at 6pm.

SALINA - The Locust
Grove Lady Pirates used an intensive third quarter to take over
a close game against county rival Salina Tuesday night, as the
Black and Red cruised to a 55-42 Battle of Highway 82 victory.
Brittany Stone of Locust, led all scorers with 17 points.
Stone also added five steals and had two, very nice block shots.
Leah Montgomery led Salina with 12 points, including shooting
4-of-6 from the charity stripe.
The Lady Pirates took a 12-9 lead after the first quarter of
play, but went ice cold in the second quarter, shooting 25% from
the field (3-of-12). Salina took advantage of the LG
miscues, and managed to take a 24-22 halftime lead.
"We didn't play well as a team in the first half," said LG head
coach Tim Ellison. "We did in the second half."
Salina would set the tone for themselves in the first 54 seconds
of the third quarter. The Lady Wildcats committed three
turnovers in that time, and ended up turning the ball over 17
times in the third quarter alone. Locust went on a 13-1
run to open the third, and managed to take a 38-30 lead heading
into the final period.
The Lady Pirates continued their scoring campaign in the fourth
quarter, scoring on uncontested lay-ups, that seemed to come
quite frequently.
"We finally played a third quarter, like I thought we could,"
said Ellison. "We finally came together as a team, and we
play well when we do that."
In the nightcap, the Salina Wildcats let one slip slide
right through their fingertips. Salina led virtually the
whole game, but a relentless Pirate team fought back for a 30-27
win.
It took the entire first half to get both teams warmed up, as
Salina only led 5-0 after the first quarter. Locust Grove
didn't get their first points until 5:05 remaining in the half,
when Spot Harrison hit a ten foot jumper to get the Pirates on
the board.

Locust Grove's Spot Harrison looks for an open hole in the lane.
Harrison had 11 points in the Pirates' 30-27 win over Salina.
Harrison scored 8 of his team high 11 in the second quarter.
Despite Harrison's efforts, Locust Grove was still down
three, 11-8 at the midway point.
The game was nip-tuck for most of the fourth quarter, but Salina
finally relinquished their lead with 1:26 left in the game, when
Randal Caldwell tickled the twine from three point land, giving
the Pirates their first lead of the game, 27-26.
Caldwell would add two free throws a few seconds later, giving
the Pirates a 29-27 lead. Salina had the ball under their
own goal with just seconds left, but a foul was called on the
Cats, putting Harrison at the line. Harrison hit 1-of-2
from the line, sealing a 30-27, come from behind win.
Salina will be participating in the Liberty Tournament this
weekend, while Locust Grove gets a week off before their
December 11 clash with the Jay Lady Bulldogs.
