Lady Warriors End Season In Semi's

By Jim Trickett

OKLAHOMA CITY - For the second consecutive year, the Sequoyah Lady Indians and Adair Lady Warriors met at the Big House, and for the second time in two seasons, the Lady Warriors came up short, as Tahlequah Sequoyah rolled to a

67-41 win before 5,500 at the Big House, otherwise known as the State Fair Arena.

The contest was all Angel Goodrich in the opening period as the Kansas-bound senior connected on three 3-pointers in the first quarter and that lifted the Lady Indians to a 17-5 lead at the end of the first quarter of play.

Adair, missing starter Kevi Luper with a knee injury suffered in the area finals against Eufaula, could not stop the Lady Indians offense in the opening half as Sequoyah's defense forced either turnovers or the Lady Warriors would only get one shot at the basket.

Lindsey Hammer came off the bench in the second period to score six, while Goodrich and senior forward Brea Brewer combined for 14 more as the Lady Indians stretched the margin to as many as 25 in the second period.

Chelsey Stricklen tried to keep Adair in the game as she scored five of the Lady Warriors eight points in the second period, but Sequoyah would take a 36-13 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, the Lady Indians continued to pull away as they led by as many as 39 at one point in the third quarter and held a 54-19 advantage going into the final eight minutes of play.

Stricklen would score 10 of her 15 points in the second half with a pair of 3-pointers, but the Lady Indians would secure their 27th win of the season, tying the school record for victories in a season set in both the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 seasons.

The victory was also the 107th for seniors Cassie Moore, Brewer, Lorin Hammer and Goodrich - tying the Cherokee County record for career wins with former Northeastern Redmen Jon Shepherd and Justin Barkley.

Goodrich led the way for the Lady Indians with 21 - 18 in the first half - while Lindsey Hammer was the other player in double-figures with 11. Brewer was next with 7, Lorin Hammer and Nikki Lewis each added 6, Moore scored 5, Sukey Deere had 4, Mariah Norwood, Lynsey Dry and Karen Hammer each added 2 and Andi Pickup had 1.

Stricklen was the lone Lady Warrior in double-figures with 15.

Stricklen Too Much For Fairview

By Kenny Bowyer

OKLAHOMA CITY - Chelsie Stricklen scored 6 of Adair's 12 first quarter points, as the Warriors cruised to a 58-39 win over the Lady Jackets from Fairview, setting up a potential rematch with #1 and three time defending champ, Tahlequah Sequoyah.

Stricklen finished with 27 points.

Adair's state tournament appearance history, made a huge difference early in the game. Fairview made turnover after turnover thanks to Adair's pesky defense, and nerves on the Lady Jackets' side, wasn't helping any.

Adair never relinquished the lead once they grabbed a 4-2 lead early in the contest. In fact, Adair dominated in all aspects of the game, and after the second quarter, Adair never let their lead drop below 11 points.
